When is Endodontic Retreatment Necessary?

Sometimes, a tooth that was previously treated may encounter new issues after several months or years. In certain situations, a tooth that has undergone endodontic treatment may not heal properly or still experience discomfort. Fortunately, there is a possibility of saving the tooth through a second endodontic procedure.

Reasons For A Failed Endodontic Treatment:

  • Failure to place the crown on time
  • Loose filling
  • Fractured tooth
  • Missed curved and narrow canal treatments
  • Exposure of fresh decay to root canal fillings
  • Contamination of the inside of the tooth by saliva
  • Failure to identify complicated canals during initial treatment

At Desert Sun Endodontics, Dr. Jason Booth offers both non-surgical and surgical procedures for endodontic treatment. If you are still experiencing tooth pain and extreme sensitivity, Dr. Booth will determine which procedure is suitable for you. During the treatment, our dental professionals will create an opening to access the root canal filling material. Alternatively, they may remove the core material, post, and crown using an ultrasonic handpiece and post remover.

Dr. Booth will carefully examine the tooth to ensure its structure is intact. Once the canals are cleaned, they will be sealed and filled, and a temporary filling will be placed on the teeth. In some cases, an endodontic surgery may be necessary if the canals are narrow or blocked.
